About
My research focusses on reinterpreting the Burnt Mounds of Shetland by exploring theories of place, memory, transformation and practise. I use a combination of landscape survey, GIS mapping and experimental archaeology to place these sites into a context which considers the totality of experience of Burnt Mound usage and reconsiders what we mean when we talk about hot stone technologies.
I have a BA in Archaeology and English Lit from The University of Wales Lampeter (now Trinity St David's) and I graduated from the University of Manchester with an MA in Archaeology in 2006. I am currently completing my PhD on a part time basis, and am working on Shetland Amenity Trust's Place Name Project, recording, mapping and interpreting place names.
